Sphagnum moss is used as a topping on newly potted bonsai. We take the moss and rub it across a 1/4" mesh screen (the same screen we use for screening soil components) to grind it up. Then we put a thin layer on top of the soil. This helps with water retention on newly potted trees, especially useful when the root system is near the top of the pot.
New Zealand Sphagnum moss is recognized worldwide as a premium product. It is renowned for being long lasting and having an excellent water holding capacity. New Zealand moss is also very clean with little stems and other debris. This particular brand is harvested from sustainable environment meant for the production of moss.
Besgrow Spagmoss is hand-picked, naturally air dried, and cleaned through a series of both mechanical and manual techniques to ensure a maximum Water Holding Capacity (WHC) of 96%.
