These wire cutters are designed specifically for Bonsai wire. Although enthusiasts new to Bonsai sometimes substitute standard wire cutters for economy, the Japanese have designed these with a rounded head to prevent damaging the branch when cutting, and with jaws that cut the wire symmetrically and cleanly. 

These particular smaller wire pliers are great to keep in your hand as you wire a tree, not having to put down and pick up a larger wire cutter.
